Montreal, Quebec, June 2003 - JCMB Technology Inc., a provider of innovative software and services for the electric, gas and water utilities, has been awarded a C$ 6.6 million conversion contract from Hydro-Quebec Distribution.
The scope of this project is to reconcile multiple source data provided by Hydro-Quebec, convert the data into a single, centralized data repository within a JCMB conversion environment, perform Quality Assurance on the data, and finally transfer the certified data to GE Smallworld, currently being implemented at Hydro-Quebec Distribution.
JCMB was selected through a competitive Request for Proposal process. Hydro-Quebec was seeking a firm that would provide them with expertise in data conversion services. The selection criteria used by Hydro-Quebec required demonstrated skills and knowledge within the following specific areas:
· Data Source Consolidation
· Data Conversion
· GIS Data Load (Geographic Information System)
· Quality Assurance

JCMB will customize their technology in order to meet the specific needs of Hydro-Quebec with regards to data capturing and validation. The automated technologies provided by JCMB will assure a high level of quality for both the accuracy and consolidation of the data.
Since 1995, JCMB has been providing the utility market with innovative software tools focused on data quality. “Our technologies provide users with the ability to maintain an accurate Distribution Model, thereby ensuring a high level of integrity with regards to modeling connectivity” explained Bruce Seidel, president of JCMB Technology.
Among the Data Source Consolidation activities, JCMB will gather, merge and format more than two-dozen different sources of data so that it can be efficiently processed. This process includes rendering all required landbase references and coordinating the various databases in order to ensure a complete and valid centralized source data warehouse.
The Data Conversion portion of this project has been streamlined and partially automated. JCMB’s data conversion suite enables the technicians to accurately and efficiently capture all required device information from the centralized data warehouse without having to access any other application.
JCMB Technology has always focused on Quality Assurance in all aspects of its operations. In compliance with their ISO 9001-2000 certification, JCMB’s deliverables undergo detailed conformance testing and validation prior to customer acceptance.
The total service area covers the entire province of Quebec, which Hydro-Quebec partitions into six territories. The entire conversion effort will capture over 500,000 transformers and link each of them with over 3.6 million electric customers. The project will commence with a pilot area that includes 47,000 customers serviced by almost 10,000 transformers. The purpose of the pilot is to carry out the entire process and implement an efficient conversion and quality assurance protocol.
The entire conversion project began in March of this year and is currently scheduled for completion by the end of October 2004.
